Candidates must meet the prerequisites in one of the accompanying groups to be qualified for PMP certification:

Group A

Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate degree or the global equivalent)
7,500 hours leading and directing projects
Minimum 35 hours of project management education (also called 35 hours PDUs)

Group B

Four-year degree
4,500 hours leading and directing projects
Minimum 35 hours of project management education (also called 35 hours PDUs)


PDUs short form of Professional Development Units are the measuring unit used to quantify professional development as part of the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program. 1 PDU = 1 hour of learning/activity.


Tip: Do not include forms of self-directed learning or attendance at meetings/presentations as contact hours which won’t be acceptable.

1st Step:

 Sign up at pmi.org and create your professional profile by pressing register now button. Fill up your personal information like your name, country, date of birth, email id, project/program experience in years etc. and create username and password then press on create account button.

 Login and Go to certification and press on apply button. Then choose to apply for PMP credential among all.

3rd Step:

When filling your project management experiences, include items described below:

Project Experience

Give true title to each project
Add name and contact methods of your supervisor
Your responsibilities and project deliverables by process area. It means, fill in the number of hours used on each process groups: Initiating the Project, Planning the Project, Executing the Project, Monitoring & Controlling the Project, Closing the Project. Estimate your project hours on your own computer first (not to repeatedly save and amend on the online form which might send a signal to PMI® for an audit)

·         Tip: Abbreviations can be used for the process groups for example IN for initiating, to allow more space for description.
The start date for the first project and the end date of the last project should cover a period 3 years for degree holders and 5 years for secondary degree holders.

Project Manager Role

Briefly summarize your project in terms of its objectives, key deliverables, outcome and your role in project handling of around 500 characters.
Specify that you have directed teams to deliver a project within the constraints (schedule, budget, & scope), aapplied a suitable approach to managing the project, performed these duties under general supervision.
It would be better to mention few PMI® terms, while writing project descriptions such as project charter, Integration, Project team, project deliverables, sponsor, stakeholders, scope, schedule, quality, communications, risks, etc. and your role in the project. Read PMBOK® Guide before writing project descriptions. 

Tip: Explore what you did and were responsible for to demonstrate these actions. Individually detail each project you managed professionally. Any missing information on the application will delay processing.

4th Step:

What next after submission of application?

After submitting application online, need to wait around 5 to 6 days. PMI takes 5-6 days to intimate about acceptance of the application.
PMI will inform you about your application acceptance sending email to you.

5th Step:

Once you get email from PMI regarding your application acceptance, Pay the PMP® Certification fee and check your email account immediately. Note that, when paying fee for examination, it is necessary to specify the need of a language aid (translation for candidates whose mother tongue is not English).
        Fill the application online within 90 days and submit it. Download a copy of your application as a PDF file for reference.

What are the charges for the both of PC-based and Paper-based PMP Exam?

The examination charges depend on whether you are PMI member on not.
For PMI Members
  • PC-based exam: USD 405
  • Paper-based exam: USD 250
For Non-PMI Members
  • PC-based exam: USD 555
  • Paper-based exam: USD 400

The discount that you will get would be more than that you spent for membership. So, my suggestion is always going with membership.
6th Step:
You can schedule the exam as per your preparation and select the nearest test centre.

PMP Application Checklist

Verify through this checklist before you submit your application to ensure you have everything covered.

Check your project entries represent professional project work experience only. Ensure you haven’t included experience which are not acceptable, such as:  Academic research for a degree-granting program, Creation of a newsletter, Home improvement project etc.

Check all of the projects that you’ve included are listed individually (not listed multiple projects as one entry).

Check whether, you’ve included the true title of the project or basic descriptor of the project purpose, not your role on the project, in the title field. Example: 4G Deployment Project

Check each of your project descriptions are high level summaries of the tasks which you led or directed, and You’ve included the following info:

·    Brief, one or two sentence project objectives describing the purpose or goal of the project. Example: The objective of the project was to implement a CRM system to replace multiple legacy systems.
·     A summary of deliverables within your responsibility for the process areas where You claimed hours. 

Check Your project entries do not include routine, operational, or administrative tasks and responsibilities.

Check hours of experience included within each domain/process area are reasonable based on the time frame You’ve indicated for the project.

PMP certification can be applied online via the PMI website. The PMP application process starts when you start filling in your online application form. You have 90 days to complete your application once you start. Once your form is submitted, it is reviewed for completeness, which takes up to 5 days. You will then hear whether you are eligible to take the exam and you’ll be asked to pay the exam fee.
