Introduction to PMBOK Guide
By the mid-twentieth
century, project managers started the work of seeking recognition for project
management as a profession. One part of this work included getting agreement on
the content of the body of knowledge (BOK) called project management.
This BOK got
known as the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). It is released by
PMI to help PMP exam takers and all Project Managers to understand the value of
PMP certification.
Indeed,
it released its first edition in 1996 clarifying about the standardization of
project management approach. It is considered as a guide to all PMP
certification course providers, takers, and PMs as well.
The PMI
produced a baseline of charts and glossaries for the PMBOK. Project managers
soon realized that no single book could contain the entire PMBOK.
So, PMI created
and published A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
(PMBOK® Guide). Then
on once in every 4 years, PMI updated their edition with several additions,
modifications, and removal of details to polish the project management process.
