What is Manage Project Knowledge process in Project Management?

Manage project knowledge process is all about using the existing knowledge and creating new knowledge to achieve the objectives of the project. Thereby contributing to organizational learning. This process is performed throughout the project.

1. Lessons learned register

The lessons learned register may include the impact, recommendations, and proposed actions associated with the situation. It is also utilized to record challenges, issues, risks etc.

The lessons learned register is created as an output of this process early in the project. Thereafter it is used as an input and updated as an output in many processes throughout the project. Knowledge can be documented using videos, pictures, audios, or other suitable means..

At the end of a project or phase, the information is transferred to an organizational process asset called a lessons learned repository.

2. Project management plan updates

Any change to the project management plan goes through the organization’s change control process via a change request. Any component of the project management plan may be updated as a result of this process.

 3. Organizational process assets updates

New knowledge generated by the project is codified, embedded in deliverables, or embedded in improvements to processes and procedures as a result of the Manage Project Knowledge process. Existing knowledge can also be codified or embedded for the first time as a result of this process. Any organizational process asset can be updated as a result of this process.
